Kholodny Yar is a relict forest tract (Kamyansky district of Cherkasy region), where among the most visible natural monuments is the thousand-year-old oak, named in honor of Maxim Zaliznyak. This territory has preserved a wealth of archaeological monuments from different eras. It was from the Cold Yar in the spring of 1768 that the social and national-free revolution of 1768–1769 began in the Right Bank of Ukraine - Koliyivshchyna. Having visited here in the 1840s, Taras Shevchenko remembers about Cold Yar in the poetic works “Haydamaky” and “Cold Yar”. In 1919–1922, under the ensign of the Ukrainian People's Republic, the rebels of the Kholodnoyarsk Republic operated here.
